According to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, federal appliance standards have generated about 340,000 jobs as of 2010. This number is expected to grow to at least 380,000 by 2030. In recent years, major appliance manufacturers like Whirlpool and General Electric have responded to government efficiency standards by investing in technologies that save us money while we go about our everyday chores. These new, efficient appliances are being manufactured in places like Clyde, Ohio, where a Whirlpool plant employs 3,400 workers who build washing machines.
