More than 77,000 Americans earn their living in the wind energy industry. They work in jobs like manufacturing, construction, and operations. Over the course of its lifetime, a typical 250-megawatt wind farm (about 100 turbines) creates almost 1,100 jobs. Across the country more than 500 manufacturing facilities help supply the thousands of components that make up a wind turbine. Wind energy provides income for investors and landowners, and it also generates tax revenues for local communities and states. In 2015, more than 40 percent of added U.S. power capacity was from wind energy. American wind produces more than 6 percent of our nation’s electricity needs – enough to power about 20 million homes.
