The Senate Friday afternoon overwhelmingly approved legislation that will encourage more renewable energy projects in Vermont. But the bill has re-ignited a debate over the impact of solar and wind projects on the communities where they’re built. The 22-6 vote in favor of the renewable energy bill belies the intensity of the storm it has created in Montpelier. The bill sets the stage for the construction of 400 megawatts of renewable energy over the next 17 years.
Gov. Peter Shumlin has released the “Vermont Clean Energy Industry Report,” the first effort in the state to survey and describe Vermont’s clean energy industry. The report said Vermont’s clean energy industry employs over 15,000 workers at over 2,600 locations.
