Wouldn't stop or spend a day in Milan unless I had to fly in or out. Did that for years because of family visits, but now I go out of my way to land in Rome. I love Rome, and spend several days both in and out. Florence is fabulous, so many sites, and if skipping Milan will add a day to Florence, I highly recommend it.
